Katherine Capps

President

Katherine Herring Capps is the president of Health2 Resources. With more than 20 years of senior-level professional experience, she leads a team that assists clients to identify new customer segments, create effective communication campaigns, strengthen market position and enhance program revenue.

Prior to establishing Health2 Resources, Ms. Capps served as president of the Alabama Healthcare Council and reported to an all-CEO business community board. During her tenure she managed a 76-member (350,000 lives) NBCH business coalition and focused on health care cost and quality reporting; development, negotiation and management of an aggressive multi-company group purchasing initiative; and development and fund raising for a quick response legislative advocacy program at the state and federal levels. Prior to her coalition work, Ms. Capps served for 12 years as a hospital administrator at both for-profit and not-for-profit hospital/health care systems such as HealthSouth, National Medical Enterprises (Tenet) and VHA-affiliated hospitals. Before her hospital work she served as Executive Director of a seven-county rural home care agency. Ms. Capps began her health care career in a rural Alabama multi-specialty physician practice started by her great grandfather in 1895 (still in operation). Ms. Capps has served as a board member for the National Business Coalition on Health, the purchaser committee for the National Committee for Quality Assurance and the National Advisory Board of NBCH as well as various civic boards. She is a frequent writer on topics relating to quality, health care cost and market-based health care reform and use of information technology in health care. She serves on the advisory board for the Institute for Health and Productivity Management; the Health Care Industry Access Initiative; and as board member of the Washington Adventist Hospital Foundation. Ms. Capps also serves on numerous editorial boards.
 
Sandy Mau

Vice President, Communications

Sandy Mau has served as vice president of communications for Health2 Resources since 2001 and has worked in health care communications for more than 20 years. She works with clients to help them reach their organizational goals via communication in its many forms: presentations and reports, issue briefs, articles in a wide range of publications, press releases, interview preparation, and more.


Prior to working for Health2 Resources, she was a freelance writer, primarily from the perspective of the health care provider, purchaser/employer, and vendor of specialized health-related services. She is the bylined author of numerous articles for newspapers, magazines and business journals. She previously served as director of marketing and communications for a standalone hospital, and then oversaw external communications as it grew into a network of five hospitals, home health agencies, durable medical equipment companies, a nursing home and health club facility.  Ms. Mau's responsibilities included marketing, public relations, community relations and publications oversight during this period of substantial growth. Ms. Mau began her writing career as a beat reporter for a daily newspaper in Selma, Alabama, where she was the winner of an Associated Press Award for Reporting Without a Deadline and an Alabama Press Association Award for Best Spot News Reporting. She holds a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of California, San Diego.  
 
John B. Harkey, Jr., Ph.D.

 

Market Research and Analysis
 
  

John Harkey offers consulting services in market research and product development. His recent clients have included government, health plans, disease management and wellness companies, hospitals, and associations. His most recent major engagement has been as a consultant to the State of Tennessee where he provides a broad range of market and evaluation research for the “Cover Tennessee” health insurance initiative.   From 1986 through 2000, Dr. Harkey was president and CEO of Harkey and Associates, Inc., a firm that published market intelligence on the health insurance industry.  The market intelligence (newsletters and market guides) were collectively referred to as the Harkey Report and became the industry standard for tracking health plan developments on a regional and national basis. Among the paid subscribers included insurers, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, hospitals, physician groups, governmental entities, and consultants.  In June 2000, the Harkey Report merged with HealthLeaders, Inc. HealthLeaders was later purchased by Decision Resources and continues providing a broad range of industry reports.     Dr. Harkey received his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1979 (Sociology with a focus on health economics) and his B.S. degree in 1967 (Engineering Science with a focus on Aeronautics and Astronautics) from the U.S. Air Force Academy. He earned his pilot wings and served in the Air Force for five years including service in Vietnam and Korea.  
 
Roxanna Guilford-Blake

 

Director of Strategic Communications

 

Roxanna Guilford-Blake has worked with Health2 Resources since 2007; she came on board full time in 2010 as director of strategic communications. In that role, she is responsible for developing briefs, articles, papers, newsletters and other materials on health care issues including the patient-centered medical home, workplace wellness, provider reimbursement, cancer care, case management, care coordination, health IT and accountable care organizations.She has more than 20 years of professional writing, editing and research experience, primarily covering health, health care and health policy.

 

Before joining Health2 Resources, she co-owned a writing and editing business, Guilford-Blake Corp. Her bylined articles have been published by the Christian Science Monitor, the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Clinical Psychiatry News, Pediatric News and BioWorld Today, as well as FierceMarkets and HealthLeaders Media among many others. She served as editor of several professional newsletters, including Consumer-Driven Healthcare and Managed Care Compensation and Reimbursement. She has authored white papers, case studies, policy briefs and other materials for clients.

Ms. Guilford-Blake began her writing career as a newspaper reporter—and subsequently, news editor—in suburban Atlanta. She holds a bachelor's degree from Davidson College and a master’s degree from Emory University.

 
Barry Knight

 

Vice President, Business and Finance 
 

Barry Knight is the vice president of business and finance for Health2 Resources. He has 33 years' experience in accounting, finance and income tax, including 18 years of senior level experience in health care settings -acute care and inpatient rehabilitation-for both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.  Mr. Knight currently specializes in general business, finance, operational and tax issues.
